How to retire in the Dominican Republic

You want to live the dream - retire somewhere warm and safe that stretches your retirement dollars.

Logisanté believes everyone has the right to retire in paradise with the flexibility to make dignified transitions into adaptive care as needed. Your Comfort and Confidence is our Priority.

Logisanté is a network of residential senior facilities offering affordable luxury retirement in the Dominican Republic, with its first location breaking ground in Puerto Plata in Fall 2026. The focus here is community, culture and quality care at a price you can afford. This article makes it easy to understand how to stretch your retirement dollars with comfort and confidence.

Retiring in the Dominican Republic is easier than you think. Here are four things to
consider.

  1. The cost of living in the Dominican Republic is low! Specifically, 62% less than Turks and Cacaos, 46% less than Belize and 27% than Costa Rica. For US $1500 a month you can live well and for US $2000 a month you can live the dream!

  2. Qualifying for a visa is easy. You qualify for a pensionado visa for retirees if you have guaranteed social security or retirement funds of just US $1500/mo. The application process only takes 45 days! You can include a spouse or children for an extra US $250/month in income per person.

  3. There are no taxes on fixed income. If you have your retiree pensionado visa, you only pay taxes on local income. Your pension or social security income will not be taxed – EVER.

  4. Quality healthcare is available. Expat health insurance and healthcare are key factors in preparing for life abroad. You will need a health care plan that is country specific. The Logisanté networkincludes group insurance plans for residents.

Executive Director and Co-Founder of Logisanté, Dr. Malek Sbih, announced Friday “We plan to break ground in Fall of 2026.”

Dr. Malek Sbih and Marie-Noel Le Pain, bring decades of experience working in large health systems. They founded Logisanté to chart a new course delivering critical services that offers quality care in paradise through all phases of life.

Logisanté combines technical healthcare expertise with compassionate care and zest for life. Director of Nursing, Marie-Noël Le Pain is acting Chief of Rapid Access Clinic for Lakeshore General Hospital in Quebec. For many years Le Pain has supported large health care systems that strengthened it’s success with early and proper diagnosis, treatment and outcomes. When making the transition to care for aging loved ones, she realized that, later in life, there needs to be a shift in focus to the person not the patient. “We see patients as people. Our residents are more than the number on their door. We want to see our residents happy and enjoying life. We want to hear them telling their stories.”

“We want our residents to live their very best life” says Dr. Malek Sbih, who saw his own mother, in her 80’s, bored and unhappy in a home. “ Loved ones deserve to have laughter and energy and healthy activities,” he says. “They need a social life and keep moving. We will offer painting, woodshop, fitness and weekly outings to explore Dominican culture.” This is what he explains, sets them apart.

At Logisanté you can see the ocean just over a grassy crest on the grounds which leads to the beach. The facility is designed beautifully to give residents the option to socialize easily or have a more private apartment if needed. Matched with technical expertise and the network to help make the move feel easy, Logisanté is dedicated to a life full of laughter, learning and shuttles to the beach!
